Her academic pursuits included an associate degree from San Joaquin Delta College, a B.A. in communications with an emphasis in public relations from California State University, Sacramento in 1998, and a Master’s Degree in Communications from the University of the Pacific in 2001. Marquardt initially sought a career path that included modeling, inspired by friends’ suggestions to pose for Playboy magazine. After moving to Los Angeles in 2001, she undertook local modeling and minor acting roles. Following unsuccessful attempts to test for Playboy, she became a regular visitor to the Playboy Mansion and was invited to move in as one of Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends in October 2002.
