Bruce Oldfield is a British fashion designer known for his couture occasionwear, dressing royalty and celebrities since the 1970s. After graduating from St. Martin’s School of Art in London in 1973, Bruce Oldfield immediately made an international impact, presenting his first one-man show for Henri Bendel in New York in the same year. This was swiftly followed by his debut collection in London.
Throughout the 1980s, he expanded his design expertise beyond apparel, collaborating with the prestigious couture house Rayne to design a collection of shoes. His profound and lasting contributions to the British fashion industry were formally recognized in 1990 when he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), acknowledging his influential role in shaping contemporary design. Demonstrating a broader commitment to arts and education, Oldfield has been honored with multiple academic distinctions, including Honorary Fellowships from the Royal College of Art and the Universities of Durham and Sheffield. Further cementing his standing, he received honorary doctorates from the University of Northumbria in 2001 and the University of Central England in 2005.
