Cade Van Raaphorst is a talented young man hailing from his native Arizona, best known for being a two time USILA All-America first team pick and three time USILA All-American team pick professional lacrosse player. This fantastic athlete has played in over seventy games for his country, with fifty six starts on close defence, and for his efforts achieved a nomination for the 2019 Tewaaraton Award.
Following his father, a quarterback for Arizona State, into the world of sport, Raaphorst began his career at school, playing in the Under Armour Underclassmen Games as both a sophomore and junior and being selected as the team’s Defensive Most Valuable Player in both years, but also was named the Arizona Defensive Player Of The Year for three consecutive years, from 2013 to 2015. From there, playing as the top defenseman for the Blue Devils on twelfth ranked scoring defence in America in 2018, Raaphorst led the close defensive unit with an impressive 43 groundballs and 23 caused turnovers, before earning his first USILA Team Of The Week honour in the same year.
In 2019, he led the team to not only rank eighth in the ACC with 63 groundballs, but also managed to rank sixth in the ACC with 24 forced turnovers, leading to Raaphorst being hailed as a leader of one of the best defensive units in the country, and being ranked seventh nationally in scoring defence at 9.61 goals per game. He also achieved a personal career best of eight groundballs in overtime to win against Marquette.
Most recently, in the summer of 2020, Raaphorst was signed by the Halifax Thunderbirds for a two year contract.
