Widely regarded as one of the greatest wide receivers of all time, Calvin Johnson Jr. is a former Footballer who played for the Detroit Lions. Nicknamed “Megatron” after the similarly physically imposing character in the Transformers television series, Johnson played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons with the Lions, receiving three consecutive first-team All-Pro selections from 2011 to 2013 and appearing in six consecutive Pro Bowls from 2010 to 2015. Johnson stood out from the crowd thanks to possessing a rare combination of catching ability, leaping ability, strength, speed (he could run a 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds) and size (standing at 6ft 5in and weighing 239 lbs). He holds the record for consecutive games with 10 or more receptions and is tied with Adam Thielen for consecutive 100-yard games and tied with Michael Irvin for 100-yard games in a season.
Hailing from Newnan, Georgia, Johnson was rated among the nation’s top 100 players and top 10 wide receivers by virtually every recruiting analyst before he finished high school. He opted to play college football at Georgia Tech and received first-team All-American honors twice before being selected second overall by the Lions in the 2007 NFL Draft. Johnson went on to play nine remarkable seasons for the Lions before retiring after the 2015 season. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
