United States Candice King is an American actress, singer, and songwriter known for her significant roles in television and film. She is most recognized for her portrayal of Caroline Forbes in The CW's 'The Vampire Diaries' and its spin-offs, and has also pursued a music career, releasing an album and touring as a backing vocalist for Miley Cyrus.

Candice Rene King (née Accola) was born on May 13, 1987, in Houston, Texas. Her mother, Carolyn Clark, was an environmental engineer, and her father, Kevin Accola, worked as a cardio-thoracic surgeon. She grew up in Edgewood, Florida, and attended Lake Highland Preparatory School. King began her career in music, independently releasing her debut album, “It’s Always the Innocent Ones,” in the United States in December 2006. She co-wrote almost all of the album’s tracks. The album was later re-released in Japan in 2008 and achieved increased recognition. During this period, King also toured as a backing singer for Miley Cyrus’s Best of Both Worlds Tour and appeared as herself in the accompanying 2008 3D concert film. In 2011, she showcased her vocal abilities on “The Vampire Diaries” with a cover of “Eternal Flame” by The Bangles.
King made guest appearances in several television series, including “How I Met Your Mother,” “Supernatural,” and “Drop Dead Diva.” In July 2009, she appeared in the independent horror film “Deadgirl.” That same year, she had a minor role in “The Hannah Montana Movie.” A significant turning point in her acting career occurred in 2009 when she was cast as Caroline Forbes in The CW’s supernatural drama series, “TThe Vampire Diaries.” This role gained her widespread recognition and two Teen Choice Awards. She reprised her role as Caroline Forbes in the spin-off series “The Originals” in 2018 for its final season and again in “Legacies” in 2021-2022. Additionally, in 2012, King co-starred in and produced the web series “Dating Rules From My Future Self.” Her filmography also includes roles in “After We Collided” (2020) and a main role in the upcoming TV series “We Were Liars” (2025).
Beyond her professional work, Candice King has also been involved in social causes. Alongside her co-stars Michael Trevino and Ian Somerhalder from “The Vampire Diaries,” she supports the It Gets Better Project, an initiative aimed at preventing suicide among LGBT youth. She married musician Joe King in October 2014, and they have two daughters, Florence May, born in 2016, and Josephine June, born in 2020. The couple divorced in 2022. In 2025, she announced her engagement to actor Steven Krueger. Throughout her career, King has consistently engaged with both music and acting, building a diverse portfolio of work.
