Carly Howard is a prominent Canadian curler who has made significant strides in the sport, showcasing her talent and dedication through various competitive roles. Her curling journey began with a remarkable victory at the 2010 Ontario Bantam Mixed Championship, setting the stage for her future successes. Howard excelled in university curling, winning her first Ontario University Athletics (OUA) title in 2014 with the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, where her team demonstrated exceptional skill by defeating the Carleton Ravens in the final. This achievement was complemented by a strong performance at the 2014 CIS/CCA Curling Championships, where they reached the semifinals.
In 2014, Howard joined the Cathy Auld team as lead, marking a pivotal moment in her career. The team quickly found success, winning the Royal LePage Women’s Fall Classic World Curling Tour event. Although they faced challenges in the Grand Slam of Curling event that season, Howard’s resilience shone through as she also competed in the 2015 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials alongside her father, Glenn Howard, showcasing her versatility and competitive spirit.
Transitioning to the Mallory Kean rink in 2016, Howard played third and participated in the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, gaining valuable experience. Her career continued to flourish as she joined her cousin’s Regina-based team, where she contributed significantly to their efforts in the Saskatchewan Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
In recent years, Howard has demonstrated her leadership skills by skipping her own team in the 2022 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, where they reached the finals. Following the disbandment of the Murphy team in 2023, she formed a new team that qualified for the 2024 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts. With a strong foundation in human resources, Howard balances her professional career with her passion for curling, making her a well-rounded and inspiring figure in the sport.
