About

Born on July 8, 1973, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Kathleen Robertson began her journey in the entertainment industry by taking acting classes at the age of ten. Her early career in Canada included roles in local theatre productions and television series such as ‘The Campbells,’ ‘My Secret Identity,’ and ‘E.N.G.’ Her first major television role was as Tina Edison in the Canadian sitcom ‘Maniac Mansion’ (1990–1993), a performance for which she received two Young Artist Award nominations. Robertson made her American debut in the 1992 made-for-television movie ‘Quiet Killer’ and appeared in her first big-screen role in the 1992 thriller ‘Blown Away.’ Her breakthrough into widespread recognition came in 1994 with her role as Clare Arnold in the Fox teen drama ‘Beverly Hills, 90210,’ where she was a series regular from seasons four to seven, concluding her tenure in 1997.

Following her time on ‘Beverly Hills, 90210,’ Robertson expanded her filmography with diverse roles, demonstrating her versatility. She worked with director Gregg Araki on ‘Nowhere’ (1997) and ‘Splendor’ (1999), and appeared in comedies such as ‘Dog Park’ (1998), ‘Beautiful’ (2000), and ‘Scary Movie 2’ (2001), earning a Canadian Comedy Award nomination for the latter. Transitioning to more dramatic roles, she starred in the acclaimed independent drama ‘XX/XY’ (2002) opposite Mark Ruffalo and portrayed convicted murderer Evelyn Dick in the television movie ‘Torso: The Evelyn Dick Story’ (2002), for which she received a Gemini Award nomination. Her television career continued to flourish with lead roles in the short-lived Fox legal drama ‘Girls Club’ (2002) and as a main character, Kitty O’Neill, in the Golden Globe-winning political drama ‘Boss’ (2011–2012) alongside Kelsey Grammer. She also held significant recurring roles, including Jodi Morgan in A&E’s ‘Bates Motel’ (2014) and later as Hildy Mulligan, a homicide detective, in TNT’s ‘Murder in the First’ (2014–2016) for three seasons.

In recent years, Robertson has significantly diversified her career to include writing, producing, and showrunning. She developed and was showrunner for the Lionsgate series ‘Swimming with Sharks’ (2022), in which she also starred, and had a pivotal role in the final season of the Amazon series ‘The Expanse’ (2021-2022). Her writing projects include adapting the acclaimed novel ‘The Possibilities’ for Fox Searchlight and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Jason Reitman, writing ‘Flight’ for Paramount Pictures and Akiva Goldsman, and adapting ‘Little Bee’ for Amazon and Julia Roberts. She also signed an overall deal with Universal Cable Productions (UCP) to create and produce original content and has projects in development with Netflix, Barry Jenkins, Jason Bateman’s Aggregate Films, and Imagine Television. Her career progression highlights a continuous evolution from a notable actress to a multifaceted creative professional in the entertainment industry.
