When Chase Sui Wonders studied at Harvard University, not only did she work on her own films, but she modeled for Calvin Klein’s 2017 underwear campaign, all while graduating magna cum laude. Now that she’s in the heart of the industry, she works with high-profile celebrities like Judd Apatow, Sofia Coppola, Pete Davidson, and Lena Dunham, to name a few.
As a kid in Detroit, Wonders was so shy that her mother forced her to audition for acting roles to overcome her social anxiety. She went from auditioning while facing the wall, to writing, directing, and starring in her own films as a teen. In 2009, she had her onscreen debut in the film, A Trivial Exclusion, where she served as the protagonist, the co-director, and lead screenwriter. The film featured her family, including her aunt (and famous fashion designer), Anna Sui. Years later, Wonders modeled for Sui. With this talent and dedication, she was a natural candidate for Harvard’s film program.
During her sophomore year, Wonders directed, starred, and wrote the feature-length film, Last Migration, all while acting in many of her peer’s short films and writing for the Harvard Lampoon, a comedy paper with alumni like Andy Borowitz, B.J. Novak, and Conan O’Brien.
Since graduation, Wonders has starred in three short films, is a regular at the Metrograph Theater in New York, and she guest-starred on the HBO series, Betty. After appearing in the film Daniel Isn’t Real, Wonders was called by Sofia Coppola to appear in her film, On The Rocks. This breakout role earned her attention from Judd Apatow and Pete Davidson, who casted her in their upcoming untitled project. Additionally, she’s starring in the pilot for HBO Max’s Generation, produced by Lena Dunham.
