Chloe Esposito

Chloe Esposito was born on September 19, 1991, in Camden, New South Wales, Australia. She developed an early interest in sports, competing in the 10m air pistol at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games. Her family has a strong background in modern pentathlon; her father, Daniel Esposito, competed in the 1984 Olympic Games, and her brother, Max Esposito, also became an Olympian in the same sport. Chloe made history in 2007 as the youngest Australian female modern pentathlete to participate in an Olympic selection event at the age of 15, though she did not secure a spot for the Beijing Olympics.

Esposito’s career progressed with significant achievements in modern pentathlon. She made her Olympic debut at the London 2012 Games, finishing an impressive seventh overall. This performance marked her as the first Australian modern pentathlete to achieve a top 10 finish at the Olympics since 1964. She further distinguished herself by winning Australia’s first-ever modern pentathlon medal, a gold, at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Starting the combined running/shooting discipline in seventh place, she delivered a strong performance, achieving an Olympic record with 1372 points and a final combined time of 12 minutes, 10.19 seconds.

Following her Olympic success, Esposito received national recognition. In 2016, she was named ABC Sports Personality of the Year at the Australian Institute of Sport Performance Awards. The following year, she was awarded the Order of Australia Medal. In 2020, Esposito announced her pregnancy, which led to her decision not to defend her gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She later co-owned Lennox Aquatic Centre-Swim and Gym, demonstrating her continued involvement in sports and community.
