Chris Bumstead is a Canadian professional bodybuilder recognized for his numerous Mr. Olympia Classic Physique titles, bringing mainstream attention to the sport.
Five-time Classic Physique Olympia winner Chris Bumstead has assumed partial ownership of market-leading apparel brand Gymshark. He originally joined Gymshark as an athlete in 2018, and now he's back as part-owner and an athlete. This move was announced on September 9, 2024.
Chris Bumstead officially joined Raw Nutrition as a Partner. He is a founding partner, launching a signature product line including supplements like pre-workouts and protein powders. His BUM Energy drink is also part of this collaboration.
Christopher Adam Bumstead, known as CBum, was born on February 2, 1995, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. During his formative years, Bumstead was involved in various sports, including football, baseball, basketball, and hockey. He began weightlifting at the age of 14, initially viewing it as a hobby. His brother-in-law, Iain Valliere, recognized Bumstead’s potential and guided him into competitive bodybuilding. By the time he was 19 in 2014, Bumstead made his competitive debut, winning a regional show in Ontario as a junior. This initial success solidified his passion for the sport, leading him to dedicate his efforts to competitive bodybuilding under Valliere’s coaching.
Bumstead achieved his IFBB pro card at the age of 21 after winning the 2016 IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championship. He secured 3rd place in his first professional show. In 2017, he won the IFBB Pittsburgh Pro and the IFBB Toronto Pro Supershow. His first appearance at Mr. Olympia in 2017 resulted in a second-place finish in the Classic Physique category, an uncommon achievement for a debut. He again placed second at the 2018 Mr. Olympia, despite a significant health setback that year involving kidney issues and hospitalization. In 2019, Bumstead won his first Mr. Olympia Classic Physique title, beginning a streak of six consecutive victories, concluding in 2024, the most in the category’s history.
Following his sixth Mr. Olympia Classic Physique win in 2024, Bumstead announced his retirement from the sport. He later made a Men’s Open Division debut at the 2024 EVLS Prague Pro, placing second, before confirming his retirement. Beyond his competitive career, Bumstead has expanded his presence in the fitness industry. In 2021, he became a founding partner of RAW Nutrition, a supplement company, and launched his signature product line. In 2024, he rejoined Gymshark as both an athlete and a part-owner, further integrating his brand with established industry entities. He is recognized for his candor on topics within the fitness community, accumulating a substantial online following with over 25 million Instagram followers and over 4 million YouTube subscribers by late 2024.
