Chris Chandler

Christopher Mark Chandler was born on October 12, 1965, in Everett, Washington. He was active in multiple sports during high school, including basketball, football, track, and golf. As a high school quarterback, he recorded 2,000 yards and 49 touchdowns. Chandler continued his football career at the University of Washington from 1984 to 1987, where he finished third in the school’s history for total offense with 4,442 yards and 32 touchdown passes. He concluded his college career as the Offensive Player of the Game at the 1988 Senior Bowl and graduated with an economics degree.

Chandler was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round (76th overall) of the 1988 NFL Draft. His professional career spanned 17 seasons, playing for eight different teams, a record shared with other notable players. He was known for his ability to make quick decisions, with coaches noting his speed-reading of defenses and anticipation of receivers. Despite being continually bothered by injuries and sometimes referred to as ‘Crystal Chandelier’, he achieved significant milestones, including leading the Atlanta Falcons to a 14–2 record in 1998 and an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIII. During this stellar 1998 season, Chandler recorded a 9.65 yards-per-attempt figure, the highest of any quarterback in the 1990s with over 300 passing attempts, and set career bests in yardage and touchdowns.

Over his career, Chandler accumulated 28,484 passing yards and 170 touchdowns. He threw at least one touchdown pass for seven different franchises, an NFL record at the time. He earned two Pro Bowl selections in 1997 and 1998 during his tenure with the Falcons. After leaving Atlanta, he played for the Chicago Bears for two seasons, from 2002 to 2003, and concluded his career with the St. Louis Rams in 2004, serving as a backup and mentor.
