About

Lee Grinner Pace, born on March 25, 1979, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, began his acting journey after spending several years in Saudi Arabia due to his father’s oil business. The family later settled in Houston, Texas. Pace attended Klein High School, where he briefly paused his studies to act at Houston’s Alley Theatre before returning to graduate. This early exposure to the stage prepared him for further training at the prestigious Juilliard School, from which he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2001. His formative years in theater, including roles in “The Credeaux Canvas” and “The Fourth Sister” off-Broadway, laid the groundwork for a career marked by significant achievements and a reputation for embodying a wide range of characters.

Pace gained early critical acclaim for his role in the 2003 film “Soldier’s Girl,” which depicted real-life events. His performance in this movie earned him a Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Actor and nominations for a Golden Globe and an Independent Spirit Award. This breakthrough led to a series of notable film and television roles. He starred as Ned in Bryan Fuller’s critically acclaimed series “Pushing Daisies” (2007-2009), which earned him a Golden Globe and Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor. His filmography expanded to include visually striking projects like Tarsem Singh’s “The Fall” (2006) and supporting roles in “The Good Shepherd” (2006) and “A Single Man” (2009).

His career further ascended with major roles in prominent franchises. Pace notably portrayed Thranduil the Elvenking in Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” trilogy (2012-2014) and the intergalactic villain Ronan the Accuser in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” (2014), a role he reprised in “Captain Marvel” (2019). On television, he was a lead in AMC’s period drama “Halt and Catch Fire” (2014-2017) for four seasons. More recently, since 2021, Pace has starred as Brother Day, the Emperor of the Galaxy, in the Apple TV+ series “Foundation.” His extensive stage work also includes a Broadway debut in “The Normal Heart” (2011) and a starring role in the revival of “Angels in America” (2018), showcasing his enduring commitment to the performing arts across multiple mediums.
