Christopher “Chris” O’Dowd was born on October 9, 1979, in Boyle, County Roscommon, Ireland. He showed an early aptitude for sports, representing Roscommon in Gaelic football at various youth levels. O’Dowd pursued higher education, studying politics and sociology at University College Dublin before attending the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. His acting career gained significant traction with his role as Roy Trenneman in the Channel 4 comedy “The IT Crowd” (2006-2010), which established him as a prominent figure in British television comedy.

O’Dowd transitioned effectively into film, gaining international recognition for his role as Officer Rhodes in the 2011 hit comedy “Bridesmaids.” He continued to build a diverse filmography, appearing in films such as “This Is 40” (2012), “The Sapphires” (2012), “Thor: The Dark World” (2013), “Calvary” (2014), and “St. Vincent” (2014). Beyond acting, O’Dowd has also ventured into writing and producing, notably creating and starring in the Sky 1 television series “Moone Boy” (2012-2015), a show based on his childhood experiences. His theatrical work includes a Broadway debut in the 2014 adaptation of “Of Mice and Men,” for which he received a Tony Award nomination. He won a Primetime Emmy Award for his performance in the British comedy TV series “State of the Union” (2019).
