Christina Milian, born Christine Flores on September 26, 1981, in Jersey City, New Jersey, and raised in Waldorf, Maryland, began demonstrating an interest in entertainment at age four. Her family relocated to Los Angeles when she was 13 to support her acting aspirations. Initially seeking roles, Milian also developed an interest in music. She began writing songs around age 17 to create her own demos, leading to a record deal. By 19, she secured a contract with Def Jam. Her early career included minor roles in television and film, such as “Sister, Sister” and “American Pie,” alongside a reporting role on Disney Channel’s “Movie Surfers.”
In 2000, Milian’s musical career gained momentum with her vocal contributions to Ja Rule’s single “Between Me and You,” which reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. This led to her debut self-titled album in 2001, featuring hits like “AM to PM” and “When You Look at Me,” both charting in the UK Singles Chart top three. Her song “Dip It Low” from the 2004 album “It’s About Time” became a major U.S. hit, reaching number five on the Billboard chart and earning a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. “It’s About Time” also received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album in 2005. Milian’s acting career progressed with a lead role in “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” (2003) and appearances in films such as “Be Cool” (2005) and “Pulse” (2006).
Milian continued to balance her music and acting endeavors, releasing her third album, “So Amazin’,” in 2006, which included the UK top ten single “Say I.” After parting ways with Island Def Jam, she independently released her EP “4U” in 2015. Milian has consistently appeared in film and television roles, including “Bring It On: Fight to the Finish” (2009), “Christmas Cupid” (2010), and more recently, “Falling Inn Love” (2019) and “Resort to Love” (2021) for Netflix. She also held a recurring role on the TV series “Grandfathered” from 2015 to 2016 and is slated to appear in “Dexter: Original Sin” (2024–2025). Her entrepreneurial ventures include co-ownership of Viva Diva Wines and Beignet Box, a dessert shop.
