Conrad Black is a Canadian-British writer, historian, and former newspaper publisher and financier, recognized for controlling Hollinger International, once the world’s third-largest English-language newspaper empire. Black commenced his publishing career in 1966 with the acquisition of the Eastern Townships Advertiser. He expanded his media interests by co-founding Sterling Newspapers Limited in 1971, a holding company that acquired various Canadian regional newspapers. Professionally, Black earned a Law Degree from Université Laval in 1970 and a Master of Arts degree in History from McGill University in 1973, which informed his first major biographical publication, ‘Duplessis’, released in 1977.
His presence extended to broadcast media, where he hosted ‘The Zoomer’ on VisionTV in 2013. The same year, he released ‘Flight of the Eagle: A Strategic History of the United States’, solidifying his reputation as a formidable historian. Continuing his prolific output, Black authored ‘Rise to Greatness: The History of Canada From the Vikings to the Present’ in 2014, and from 2015 to 2016, he hosted ‘Conversations with Conrad’ on VisionTV. His most recent biographical work, ‘Donald J.
Trump: A President Like No Other’, was published in 2018. In 2019, Black was granted a federal pardon by President Donald Trump. Later that year, he released ‘The Canadian Manifesto: How One Frozen Country Can Save the World’. Most recently, Black regained his Canadian citizenship in 2023, underscoring his enduring connection to both his Canadian and British heritage while maintaining an active career as a writer and political commentator.
