Corey Pavin

Corey Allen Pavin was born on November 16, 1959, in Oxnard, California. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and turned professional in 1982. Early in his career, Pavin found success overseas, winning the Lexington PGA in South Africa and the German Open in Europe in 1983. He quickly established himself on the PGA Tour, securing his first victory at the 1984 Houston Coca-Cola Open. Over the next decade, Pavin consistently performed, accumulating numerous titles and earning the distinction of topping the PGA Tour’s money list in 1991.

Pavin’s career reached a significant peak with his major championship victory at the 1995 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. In a memorable final round, he secured the title by executing a critical shot with a four-wood on the 72nd hole, cementing his place in golf history. Following this achievement, his performance on the PGA Tour experienced a decline, marked by a ten-year period without a win. However, he demonstrated resilience by claiming his 15th PGA Tour title at the 2006 U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, ending his winless streak.

After his competitive playing career, Pavin transitioned into leadership roles within the sport. He served as assistant captain for the U.S. Ryder Cup team in 2006 and was appointed captain for the 2010 Ryder Cup. He later began playing on the Champions Tour in 2010, where he achieved his first victory at the Allianz Championship in 2012, defeating Peter Senior in a sudden-death playoff. Throughout his career, Pavin has been involved in several national teams, including the Presidents Cup and Walker Cup.
