About

Curtis Stone was born in Melbourne, Australia, on November 4, 1975. His culinary journey began at an early age, cooking with his paternal grandmother, Maude, from the age of four. He attended Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School and pursued a commercial cookery apprenticeship at Box Hill TAFE, initially enrolling in a Bachelor of Business at Victoria University before committing to a chef career. Stone gained foundational experience in Australian restaurants before moving to London, where he worked at the Savoy Hotel. He further honed his skills under Marco Pierre White at the Café Royal and Mirabelle, eventually becoming head chef at White’s Quo Vadis. These early experiences established his reputation for precise culinary techniques and innovative approaches to food.

Stone’s career expanded significantly into television, starting with “Surfing the Menu” on ABC in Australia. He gained international recognition as the host of “Take Home Chef” on TLC, which premiered in May 2006. His television presence grew with regular appearances on NBC’s “Today” show, Martha Stewart’s “Martha,” and Food Network’s “Iron Chef America.” In 2010, Stone participated in “The Celebrity Apprentice 3,” placing fourth. He also served as a judge and investor on NBC’s “America’s Next Great Restaurant” in 2011 and hosted the third season of Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters.” His show “Field Trip with Curtis Stone” began on PBS in 2019, and he became a judge on “Crime Scene Kitchen” in 2021.

In February 2014, Stone opened his first restaurant, Maude, in Beverly Hills, named after his grandmother. Maude was awarded a Michelin star in 2019. He followed this with Gwen, a second restaurant in Hollywood, named after his maternal grandmother, which also received a Michelin star in 2022. In 2024, he opened Woodend by Curtis Stone at the Maroma Hotel in Mexico. Beyond restaurants and television, Stone has authored several cookbooks, including the New York Times bestseller “What’s For Dinner?” (2013). He has also developed a line of kitchen utensils, “Kitchen Solutions by Curtis Stone,” and has engaged in philanthropic efforts with organizations like Feeding America and Second-Bite, and as an ambassador for Cottage by the Sea since 2011. Since 2010, Stone has been the fresh food and recipes ambassador for Coles Supermarkets in Australia, significantly influencing Australian home cooking with his recipes.
