About

Deongelo Holmes, known professionally as D-Roc, was born on February 23, 1979. He is primarily recognized as one half of the American hip-hop duo, the Ying Yang Twins, which he formed with Kaine (Eric Jackson) in 1997. The duo debuted in 2000, quickly gaining traction with their distinctive crunk style and Southern rap sound. Their debut single, “Whistle While You Twurk,” was a significant early success, reaching number 17 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. This early momentum established them as a rising force in the hip-hop landscape.

D-Roc’s career saw a significant rise in mainstream popularity starting in 2003. This period was marked by key collaborations, including their involvement with Britney Spears on her album “In the Zone” and a major joint effort with Lil Jon on the hit track “Get Low.” These collaborations helped propel D-Roc and the Ying Yang Twins into the national spotlight, solidifying their presence in popular music. The duo continued to release a series of popular party singles in 2004 and 2005, such as “Salt Shaker,” “Wait (The Whisper Song),” “Shake,” and “Badd,” further cementing their status in the crunk movement. Their album “Me & My Brother” achieved platinum certification on April 12, 2005, highlighting their commercial success and impact within the genre. D-Roc has consistently remained active in the music industry, touring and releasing new material, and has been recognized for his enduring influence on hip-hop. He and Kaine were featured on the 2019 Millennium Tour and continue to perform their extensive catalog of hits for audiences worldwide.

Beyond his work with the Ying Yang Twins, D-Roc has explored individual projects. In 2005, he formed the group Da Muzicianz with his younger brothers, Mr. Ball and Da Birthday Boy, releasing their debut single “Camera Phone” and a self-titled album in 2006. In 2008 and 2009, the Ying Yang Twins released mixtapes “The Official Work” and “Ying Yang Forever,” followed by a greatest hits album. They continued to innovate, signing with Epic Records in 2012 and releasing the single “Fist Pump, Jump Jump.” His career demonstrates consistent artistic output and adaptability within the music industry. Additionally, their song “Halftime (Stand Up and Get Crunk)” has become an unofficial anthem for the New Orleans Saints, performed at games and even during their Super Bowl victory parade, showcasing their music’s cultural resonance.
