Born on January 21, 1999, in Riverside, Illinois, Dana Rettke began her volleyball journey in high school, quickly establishing herself as a formidable player. She attended Riverside-Brookfield High School, where she was recognized as the 2016 Illinois State Player of the Year. During her high school career, she set records for kills and blocks, demonstrating her athletic potential early on. Rettke played club volleyball with 1st Alliance, further developing her skills before committing to the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2014. Her collegiate career began in 2017, where she majored in business marketing and quickly became a standout athlete as the tallest player on the Wisconsin Badgers volleyball team.
Rettke’s time at the University of Wisconsin was marked by consistent achievement and national recognition. She earned AVCA First Team All-American honors in each of her five college seasons, a historical first for the AVCA. She was also a multiple recipient of All-Big Ten honors and was named the Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year twice, in 2019-20 and 2021-22. A significant milestone was leading the Wisconsin Badgers to their first-ever NCAA Division I national championship in 2021. For her exceptional performance, she received the 2021-22 Honda Sports Award for women’s volleyball, recognizing her as the nation’s top collegiate female player.
Following her collegiate success, Rettke transitioned to professional and international play. She made her senior national team debut with the USA Volleyball Women’s National Team at the 2019 Volleyball Nations League, where she helped the U.S. secure a gold medal. In 2022, she began her professional club career in Italy with Vero Volley Milano. She later signed with the Turkish club Eczacıbaşı Dynavit in May 2024. Most recently, Rettke represented the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where she contributed to the team’s silver medal win. Her career highlights include numerous international competitions, showcasing her consistent performance at the highest levels of the sport.
