About

Daniel Wroughton Craig was born on March 2, 1968, in Chester, Cheshire, England. His father was a merchant seaman who later became a landlord, and his mother was an art teacher. Craig’s interest in acting was nurtured from a young age, starting with school plays like “Oliver!” at Frodsham Primary School. He further pursued his passion by joining the National Youth Theatre at age 16, where he performed in tours to locations such as Valencia, Spain, and Moscow, Russia. After several attempts, he gained admission to the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1988, graduating in 1991. Early in his career, he supported himself by working in restaurant kitchens and as a waiter, demonstrating his commitment to his craft.

Craig’s career began with a film debut in “The Power of One” (1992). His breakthrough role came with the BBC2 serial “Our Friends in the North” (1996), which brought him critical attention. He then took on supporting roles in larger productions, including “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” (2001) and “Road to Perdition” (2002), expanding his international profile. A significant turning point was his leading role in “Layer Cake” (2004), for which he received nominations and awards, showcasing his versatility as an actor. This period solidified his reputation as a capable and serious performer, setting the stage for his most globally recognized role.

In October 2005, Daniel Craig was announced as the sixth actor to play James Bond, a role he embraced following his work on Steven Spielberg’s “Munich” (2005). His casting generated discussion due to his physical appearance, differing from previous Bonds, but he quickly gained widespread acclaim for his intense and emotionally complex portrayal of the character. He starred in five Bond films: “Casino Royale” (2006), “Quantum of Solace” (2008), “Skyfall” (2012), “Spectre” (2015), and “No Time to Die” (2021). Beyond Bond, Craig has continued to take on diverse roles, such as Mikael Blomkvist in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” (2011) and Detective Benoit Blanc in the critically successful “Knives Out” (2019) and its sequel “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” (2022). In 2022, he was appointed Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) for his contributions to film and theatre.
