Danny Webber is a professional footballer that rose through the ranks of the prestigious Manchester United Academy. Unfortunately, injuries hampered his development to the first team, and he opted to move away from Old Trafford to forge a career for himself. During his time with the Red Devils, he was twice loaned out to Watford before later signing for the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2003.
Webber enjoyed an excellent two seasons with the club as he scored 17 goals in 55 appearances. His performances caught the eye of Sheffield United, and after an initial loan spell, he moved to Sheffield permanently at the end of the 2004-05 season for a considerable fee. It was during his time at the Blades that he enjoyed his most significant success, as he scored the ten goals that helped Sheffield United gain promotion to the Premier League. He played 22 times during their top-flight campaign and scored five goals.
Webbers’ contract expired at the end of that season and he agreed to a short-term deal with Portsmouth. He played a back-up role at Pompey and injuries meant that he could only make 25 appearances over two years with the club. He did, however, pick up an FA Cup runner-up medal despite not playing in the competition. Following his release from Portsmouth, he played for Leeds United, Doncaster Rovers and Accrington Stanley. Webber’s final club was Salford City. He was signed by owners Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, scoring 38 goals over two seasons, pushing the club forward through successive promotions. He announced his retirement in 2016, but remains active within the football community.
