Dereck Chisora

Dereck Chisora was born on December 29, 1983, in Mbare, Harare, Zimbabwe, to Viola and Paul Chisora. He moved to the United Kingdom at the age of 16 in 1999, settling in Finchley, London. Chisora embarked on his boxing journey at 19, training at Finchley ABC, an amateur club also associated with Anthony Joshua. His amateur career included 20 fights, notably winning the 2005 Novice Championships and the 2006 ABA super-heavyweight title, and securing a silver medal at the Four Nations Championships. He began his professional career on February 17, 2007, under Queensberry Promotions, making his debut at Wembley Arena with a second-round technical knockout victory over István Kecskés.

Chisora’s professional career quickly gained momentum with a series of wins. He captured the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles in 2010, defeating Danny Williams and Sam Sexton, respectively. Over the years, he has challenged for the WBC heavyweight title twice, in 2012 against Vitali Klitschko and in 2022 against Tyson Fury. His career includes holding the European title from 2013 to 2014 and significant victories over notable opponents such as Kubrat Pulev. As of January 2024, BoxRec ranks him among the world’s top 10 heavyweights, a position he has maintained since 2013, reaching a peak ranking of No. 5 in 2013 and 2020. His knockout-to-win percentage stands at 65%.

Throughout his career, Chisora has faced numerous high-profile opponents and has been involved in several memorable bouts, showcasing his fighting spirit and resilience. He has demonstrated a commitment to remaining active in the sport, as evidenced by his continued presence in major fights and his aspiration to complete 50 professional bouts. His journey has seen him transition between different promoters and trainers, including a notable period with David Haye as his manager, during which he adopted the moniker ‘WAR’.
