Derek Phillips has had a very varied acting career, beginning in theatre and then moving on to TV roles, film and even voiceover work for video games and movies. He studied acting at Baylor University and earned a BFA, preparing him for work in the theatre, but as his career progressed, he went above and beyond the range of talent that he was taught in college.
Phillips appeared in many theatrical performances at the start of his career. After moving to New York, he appeared in Of Mice and Men at the Dallas Theater Center, taking on the Steinbeck classic with passion and skill. He continued his theatre projects right up until he made his big break into TV work.
Phillips’ largest and best known role was in Friday Night Lights where he starred in over sixty episodes as his character, Billy Riggins. After the show ended in 2011, he took on some small roles in various programmes, but his career took a different turn when he began to focus on voiceover work for video games. Now, he’s appeared on some of the most popular games to date, including The Walking Dead: Michonne, Fallout 4, Life Is Strange and, most recently, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. He also recently returned to TV screens in 2020 as the voice of Heron in Blood of Zeus.
