Dexter Marquise McCluster was born on August 25, 1988, in Largo, Florida. He attended Largo High School, excelling in football, basketball, and track. During his junior season in football, he rushed for 1,424 yards and 14 touchdowns. In his senior year, he achieved 2,490 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns, leading the Largo Packers to the 2005 District Championship. He was recognized as First-team All-State 5A by the Florida Sports Writers Association and named All-Suncoast Player of the Year by the St. Petersburg Times Mr.2000. Additionally, he was selected as the Most Valuable Player in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association North-South Football All-Star Classic game.
McCluster continued his football career at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). As a true freshman in 2006, he started five games before an injury, finishing with 15 receptions for 232 yards and two touchdowns. By 2008, he earned second-team All-SEC honors, rushing for 655 yards and recording 44 receptions for 625 yards, contributing seven touchdowns. His senior season in 2009 was particularly notable, as he set school records against Tennessee for rushing yards in a game with 282 and all-purpose yards with 324. He concluded his college career with 3,685 yards from scrimmage and 23 touchdowns.
McCluster was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round (36th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He made an immediate impact, scoring his first NFL touchdown on a 94-yard punt return in his debut on September 13, 2010. This made him the youngest Chiefs player to score a touchdown at 21 years and 19 days old. He continued his professional career with the Tennessee Titans from 2014 to 2015 and the San Diego Chargers in 2016. After his NFL tenure, he also played for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League in 2018 and the Massachusetts Pirates in the National Arena League in 2019, demonstrating his continued commitment to the sport.
