Djibril Cissé

Djibril Cissé established himself as a prolific and dynamic forward after being promoted to Auxerre’s first team in 1998. During his six seasons with the French club, Cissé scored an impressive 90 goals in 166 appearances across all competitions. His formidable attacking prowess earned him the title of top scorer in Ligue 1 for the 2001–02 season with 22 goals, a feat he repeated in 2003–04 with 26 goals. He made his Ligue 1 debut against Paris Saint-Germain in 1999 and was a key player in Auxerre’s Coupe de France victory in 2002–03.

He also won the Coupe Gambardella with Auxerre’s youth team in 1999. In 2004, Cissé made a significant move to Premier League giants Liverpool for over £14 million. Despite two severe leg breaks in 2004 and 2006, he demonstrated remarkable resilience, returning to play a crucial role. With Liverpool, he made 79 appearances, scoring 24 goals, and contributing to their memorable 2004–05 UEFA Champions League triumph, the 2005 UEFA Super Cup victory, and the 2005–06 FA Cup.
