Dominic Purcell

Dominic Haakon Myrtvedt Purcell was born on February 17, 1970, in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. At the age of two, his family relocated to Sydney, Australia, initially residing in Bondi before settling in Penrith. Purcell’s career path was influenced by observing the film “Platoon” (1986), which inspired him to pursue acting despite his working-class background. He refined his skills at The Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) and later at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where he trained alongside figures like Hugh Jackman. His early career saw him secure a role in the TV series “Raw FM” in 1997, followed by a part in “Mission: Impossible II” (2000), filmed in Australia, which further established his presence in the industry. In 2000, he won the Green Card lottery, leading to his relocation to Los Angeles and subsequent consistent work in the American entertainment scene.

Purcell’s breakthrough roles include Seamus in the 2002 film “Equilibrium” and the titular character in the TV series “John Doe” (2002). He gained broader recognition for his portrayal of Drake in “Blade: Trinity” (2004) and, most notably, as Lincoln Burrows in the critically acclaimed television series “Prison Break,” which ran from 2005 to 2009 and returned for a revival in 2017. His involvement in “Prison Break” extended to a producer role for nine episodes in 2017. He was also cast as Mick Rory, known as Heat Wave, in “The Flash” (2014–2016) and later reprised this role as a main character in “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” (2016–2021). Throughout his career, Purcell has demonstrated range in various film and television projects, contributing significantly to action, drama, and science fiction genres. He holds triple British, Irish, and Australian citizenship.

Notable film credits include “Killer Elite” (2011), “Assault on Wall Street” (2013), and “Blood Red Sky” (2021). His work in television has also included guest appearances in “House” (2004) and “Castle” (2011), alongside his prominent roles in the Arrowverse. In 2007, Purcell received an AACTA Award for Best Actor for his performance in “Prison Break,” recognizing his impact in the Australian film and television industry. He has also taken on producer roles for projects like “Three Way” (2004) and “Isolation” (2015), further diversifying his contributions to film production.
