William Drake White, born on October 3, 1983, in Hokes Bluff, Alabama, began his musical journey singing in his church’s youth choir. He later attended Gadsden State Community College and Auburn University, where he earned a degree in building science. Before pursuing music full-time, White worked as a general contractor in Nashville, Tennessee. His early career saw him open for established musicians such as Eric Church, Luke Bryan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Little Big Town, and the Zac Brown Band, playing with his band “Drake White & The Big Fire.”
In 2013, White released his debut single “Simple Life” through MCA Nashville, establishing his distinct country soul sound. He signed with Dot Records, an imprint of Big Machine Records, in June 2014. His debut album, ‘Spark,’ was released in August 2016 and charted at No. 4 on the Top Country Albums chart, featuring singles like “It Feels Good,” “Livin’ the Dream,” and “Makin’ Me Look Good Again.” He also released the EPs ‘Pieces’ in 2018 and ‘Stars’ in 2020.
In August 2019, White experienced a significant health challenge when he collapsed on stage due to a hemorrhagic stroke caused by an arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Despite initial prognoses that he might not perform again, he underwent multiple surgeries and physiotherapy, returning to music. His resilience inspired ‘The Optimystic’ album in 2022 and ‘The Bridge’ EP in 2023. White has earned accolades including Rolling Stone’s ’10 Country Artists You Need to Know,’ The Grammy’s ‘Artist of Tomorrow,’ and the British CMA Awards’ ‘International Song of the Year,’ continuing to release new music such as “Power of a Woman” and “Giants.”
