About

Wendell Bullen, originally from Carriacou, Grenada, is a dancer, choreographer, and recording artist. Early in his life, he was actively involved in various activities on his island, including playing soccer and working with his father’s bottling service and bakery businesses. His path shifted towards performing arts, where he gained initial recognition by winning local talent shows for his singing and dancing abilities. He adopted the stage name King Kayak, with “King” reflecting his success in dancehall competitions and “Kayak” stemming from a common nickname for people from Carriacou, maintaining a connection to his heritage.

At 14, Bullen moved to New York and soon after high school, he engaged with a free dance program at The Door on Broome Street in SoHo. This immersion allowed him to learn various dance styles for two years, five days a week, eventually leading him to become an instructor within the program. His dedication to dance eventually led to audition opportunities, including one for Missy Elliott early in his career. A significant milestone in his dancing career was performing in the 2018 music video “Made for Now” for Janet Jackson and Daddy Yankee, which broadened his reach and established him as a prominent background dancer.

Bullen’s career progression continued with performances for artists such as Davido and Koffee, and collaborations with numerous brands and networks, including Reebok, Redbull, and NBC. In 2025, he was featured as the first Grenadian dancer in the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, performing directly behind Kendrick Lamar. This achievement marked a substantial peak in his professional dancing career. Beyond dance, Bullen has also pursued music, experimenting with Afro, Soca, and Dancehall fusions. He has released multiple singles and has had his music featured in commercials for major brands, with plans to release more music and expand his “Kayak Kru” dance company internationally.
