Ed Gordon

Ed Gordon is an Emmy Award-winning journalist with a distinguished career spanning decades across major news networks, consistently delivering in-depth reports and interviews on issues critical to the African-American community. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in communications and political science from Western Michigan University in 1982, Emmy Award-winning journalist Ed Gordon launched his distinguished career as a production assistant at Detroit’s PBS affiliate WTVS from 1983 to 1985. He then hosted ‘Detroit Black Journal’ in 1986 before joining Black Entertainment Television (BET) as a freelancer. Gordon became the full-time anchor of ‘BET News’ in 1988, establishing himself with the acclaimed interview series ‘Conversation with Ed Gordon’, where he sat down with high-profile figures including President Bill Clinton, Tupac Shakur, Sidney Poitier, and Whitney Houston.

He then served as a correspondent for CBS News’ ’60 Minutes II’ from 2004 to 2005 and hosted NPR’s ‘News & Notes’ from 2005 to 2006. From 2006 to 2010, he hosted the nationally syndicated talk show ‘Our World with Black Enterprise’. Gordon made further impactful returns to BET, hosting ‘Weekly with Ed Gordon’ from 2010 to 2011, and later helmed the weekly primetime newsmagazine ‘Ed Gordon’ on Bounce TV in 2016. In 2020, he authored the critically acclaimed book ‘Conversations in Black: On Power, Politics, and Leadership’.

Most recently, Ed Gordon rejoined BET in 2023 as a reporter for ‘America in Black’, a newsmagazine co-produced with CBS News, continuing to deliver impactful journalism. In 2024, he appeared on the second season of ‘America in Black’ and conducted a notable interview with President Joe Biden, further cementing his legacy of insightful storytelling and focus on issues critical to the African-American community.
