Rageh Omaar

Rageh Omaar is a distinguished British journalist and author, celebrated for his extensive coverage of international affairs and his role as a prominent news presenter. After gaining widespread recognition for his coverage of the Iraq invasion for BBC News in 2003, with many of his reports syndicated across the United States, Rageh Omaar went on to author the book Revolution Day in 2005, detailing his experiences as the BBC’s Iraq correspondent. His impactful reporting earned him an Ethnic Multicultural Media Academy award for best TV journalist in 2003. Omaar began his journalism career as a trainee for The Voice newspaper before freelancing as a foreign correspondent in Ethiopia for the BBC World Service in 1991.

His other notable television work included documentaries such as An Islamic History of Europe (2005) and The Life of Muhammad (2011), showcasing his depth in historical and cultural reporting. Omaar joined ITV News in January 2013 as a special correspondent, quickly advancing to International Affairs Editor a year later in January 2014. Since October 2015, he has held the crucial role of deputy newscaster for ITV News at Ten, a flagship UK news program. Further demonstrating his versatility, he has also occasionally presented ITV Lunchtime News and ITV Evening News since September 2017.

His continued prominence in media was recognized with nominations for the Services to Media award at the British Muslim Awards in both 2014 and 2015.
