Ed Mccaffrey

Edward Thomas McCaffrey was born on August 17, 1968, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. He attended Allentown Central Catholic High School, where he excelled in both football and basketball, leading his basketball team to state titles in 1984 and 1986. He continued his academic and athletic career at Stanford University, playing college football for the Cardinal. During his time at Stanford, McCaffrey set records, finishing as the school’s fifth all-time leader in receptions with 146 and third all-time leader in receiving yards with 2,333. In 1990, he earned first-team All-America and All-Pac-10 Conference honors, catching 61 passes for 917 yards and eight touchdowns. His collegiate achievements led to his enshrinement in Stanford’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990.

McCaffrey was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round of the 1991 NFL Draft, marking the beginning of a 13-season professional career. He played for the New York Giants from 1991 to 1993, the San Francisco 49ers in 1994, and the Denver Broncos from 1995 to 2003. Throughout his NFL career, McCaffrey earned three Super Bowl rings: Super Bowl XXIX with the San Francisco 49ers, and Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl XXXIII with the Denver Broncos. A notable milestone during his tenure with the Denver Broncos was setting a franchise record in 2000 with 101 receptions in a single season. In the same year, he and teammate Rod Smith became only the second wide receiver duo from the same team to each achieve 100 receptions in a single season. He was recognized for his performance by being named to the Pro Bowl and a second-team All-Pro selection in 1998, and was also included in the Denver Broncos’ 50th Anniversary Team. He retired from professional football on February 29, 2004, with career totals of 565 receptions, 7,422 receiving yards, and 55 touchdowns.

Following his retirement from playing, McCaffrey transitioned into coaching and business ventures. He began coaching youth football camps in 2000 and founded SportsEddy in 2011, expanding to include various sports camps. He also established the McCaffrey Family Foundation with his wife, Lisa, to support children facing medical, academic, or financial hardships. McCaffrey served as the head football coach for Valor Christian High School from 2018 to 2019, achieving a 24-2 record and winning conference titles in both seasons. He then became the head football coach for the University of Northern Colorado from 2020 to 2022. Additionally, he became the color analyst for 850 KOA, the flagship station for the Denver Broncos Radio Network, in 2012. He also developed his own brand of mustard and horseradish sauce sold in Colorado and Nebraska and was announced as the commissioner of the planned Pacific Pro Football league in 2019. His four sons have also played college and professional football, continuing the family legacy in the sport.
