Born Katherine Elaine Hendrix on December 28, 1970, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Elaine Hendrix spent her early childhood in Knoxville and Morristown before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, at age 15. There, she attended the Northside School of Performing Arts, where she began training as a dancer. Her career initially took off as a professional dancer and model, working with prominent brands such as Nike, Levi’s, Mattel, and Sun Microsystems, and appearing in hip-hop music videos for artists like Whodini, Keith Sweat, and M.C. Hammer. Her early path was altered in 1992 after a bicycle accident in Los Angeles, which led her to transition from dancing and modeling into acting. She quickly secured an agent and began her acting career with commercials before moving into television guest appearances.
Hendrix’s acting career progressed with a starring role in the 1995 Fox revival of “Get Smart.” Her breakthrough film role came in 1998 as Meredith Blake in “The Parent Trap,” gaining her widespread recognition. She continued to build a diverse filmography, appearing in productions such as “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” (1997), “Superstar” (1999), and “Inspector Gadget 2” (2003). On television, she has held roles in “Joan of Arcadia” (2003–2005), “90210” (2010–2011), and “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll” (2015–2016). In 2019, she took on the role of Alexis Carrington Colby in The CW’s “Dynasty” reboot, a role she held until 2022, further solidifying her presence in mainstream television.
Beyond her acting career, Hendrix has expanded into producing and directing, with credits including co-producer on “Good Intentions” (2010) and producer/director/writer for the short film “The Cloggers” (2009). An active animal rights advocate, she adopted a vegan lifestyle in 2006 and founded The Pet Matchmaker, an organization dedicated to promoting the rescue, foster, and adoption of homeless pets. She actively works with various organizations globally to support animal welfare. In 2025, she is slated to appear in “Freakier Friday,” reuniting with her “The Parent Trap” co-star Lindsay Lohan, and will also compete on “Dancing with the Stars” season 34.
