Margot Elise Robbie was born on July 2, 1990, in Dalby, Queensland, Australia. Raised by her physiotherapist mother, she spent her early years on her grandparents’ farm in the Gold Coast hinterland. Her interest in performing led her to study drama at Somerset College. In her late teens, she moved to Melbourne to formally pursue an acting career, eventually landing the role of Donna Freedman in the long-running Australian soap opera, “Neighbours,” from 2008 to 2011, for which she received two Logie Award nominations.
Robbie transitioned to Hollywood, quickly securing the role of Laura Cameron in the short-lived ABC series “Pan Am” (2011-2012). Her cinematic breakthrough arrived with Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street” (2013), where she co-starred as Naomi Lapaglia alongside Leonardo DiCaprio. Her performance garnered critical attention and a nomination for a Breakthrough Performance MTV Movie Award. Following this success, in 2014, Robbie co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment, a production company aimed at promoting female-driven content. She continued to build her filmography with roles in diverse projects such as “Focus” (2015), “Z for Zachariah” (2015), and a cameo in “The Big Short” (2015).
In 2016, Robbie gained worldwide recognition for her portrayal of Harley Quinn in “Suicide Squad.” She further captivated critics with her role as figure skater Tonya Harding in the biographical film “I, Tonya” (2017), earning her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She continued to take on challenging roles, notably as Queen Elizabeth I in “Mary Queen of Scots” (2018) and Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (2019). Her work in “Bombshell” (2019) led to another Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. More recently, she starred as the titular character in “Barbie” (2023), a film she also produced, which became her highest-grossing release to date and earned her a Best Picture Academy Award nomination.
