Eli Harold, born on January 20, 1994, in Virginia Beach, VA, developed his athletic abilities early, excelling in both football and track at Ocean Lakes High School. As a versatile player, he contributed significantly as a defensive end, quarterback, running back, and wide receiver for the Ocean Lakes Dolphins. His performance earned him recognition as an SI.com honorable mention All-American and a top recruit, ultimately leading him to commit to the University of Virginia for college football. Harold’s time at Virginia saw him play in all 12 games as a true freshman in 2012, recording 36 tackles, two sacks, and an interception. He became a starter in 2013, finishing the year with 51 tackles and 8.5 sacks. In his junior season in 2014, he tallied 54 tackles, seven sacks, and one interception, concluding his college career with 141 tackles, 17.5 sacks, and two interceptions.
Harold declared for the 2015 NFL Draft after his junior year. He was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round with the 79th overall pick. During his rookie season in 2015, he played in 16 games, contributing 13 tackles and one fumble recovery. His NFL career continued with various teams, including the San Francisco 49ers (2015-2017), Detroit Lions (2018), Buffalo Bills (2019 offseason), and Philadelphia Eagles (2019 offseason). Notably, he was traded to the Detroit Lions in August 2018 for a conditional 2020 draft pick, and then to the Philadelphia Eagles in August 2019 for offensive lineman Ryan Bates. Harold later signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in December 2020, where he played until his release in October 2021.
Over his professional career spanning 61 games, Harold recorded 95 total tackles, 9.0 sacks, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.
