Erin King embarked on her entrepreneurial journey in 2009 at the age of 25, founding Jump Digital Media, a web development company. This initial venture faced significant challenges, leading to its closure within 10 months and accruing $70,000 in personal credit card debt. Following this, King gained corporate experience to resolve her financial obligations.
Her second entrepreneurial attempt came in December 2013 with PMS.com, a subscription service for women’s monthly health care items. King secured seven figures in capital, detailed in her book “You’re Kind of a Big Deal: Level Up by Unlocking Your Audacity,” by pitching an all-male investor group. Despite attracting 25,000 subscribers, the company struggled with profitability due to market competition and thin margins. PMS.com ultimately failed, though its valuable URL was sold for five times the company’s valuation, barely covering its operational costs.
Undeterred, King founded Socialite Agency, transforming the 1.2 million Facebook members from PMS.com into a social media community for small brands. Initially, the agency faced difficulties attracting significant clients. A turning point occurred when King successfully pitched an idea for the 86th Academy Awards in 2014, leading Socialite Agency to manage the event’s social media. This success, which coincided with the viral Ellen DeGeneres selfie, catapulted the agency to manage social media for other notable clients, including fashion week, Visa, and the U.S. Navy. In January 2022, Strikepoint, a digital marketing agency, acquired Socialite Agency.
