Ezekiel Elijah Elliott was born on July 22, 1995, in Alton, Illinois. He comes from an athletic family, with both his mother and father having been collegiate athletes. Elliott attended John Burroughs School in Ladue, Missouri, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track and field. During his junior year in 2012, he was named the St. Louis Post-Dispatch offensive player of the year after rushing for 1,802 yards and 34 touchdowns. In his senior year, he accumulated 3,061 all-purpose yards and 50 total touchdowns, leading his football team to three championship games. A gifted track athlete, Elliott won four state championships in sprinting and hurdling events, earning the Gatorade Track Athlete of the Year in Missouri.
He committed to Ohio State University, where he continued to build his football career. As a true freshman in 2013, he contributed as a backup running back and on special teams. In 2014, he became the starting running back and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten Conference team. He notably rushed for over 100 yards six times during the season, including 220 yards in the 2014 Big Ten Championship Game. His standout performances in the College Football Playoff, with 230 rushing yards in the 2015 Sugar Bowl and 246 yards in the 2015 National Championship Game, earned him Offensive MVP honors in both.
Elliott was selected fourth overall by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2016 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he led the NFL in rushing yards with 1,631, earning First-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections. He continued his high-level performance, leading the league in rushing yards again in 2018 and consistently being a central figure in the Cowboys’ offense. After seven seasons with the Cowboys, he played for the New England Patriots in 2023, and then re-signed with the Cowboys in 2024 before a mutual parting of ways that season to pursue playoff-bound opportunities.
