Frank Paul Vogel was born on June 21, 1973, in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey. His early life included an appearance on ‘Late Night with David Letterman’ for a ‘Stupid Human Tricks’ segment. Vogel graduated from Wildwood High School in 1991 and played point guard at Juniata College before transferring to the University of Kentucky, where he served as a student manager for the men’s basketball team under coach Rick Pitino. He earned a B.S. in biology in 1998, laying the groundwork for his analytical approach to basketball.
Vogel began his NBA coaching career as the head video coordinator for the Boston Celtics in 2001, later being promoted to assistant coach. He then held assistant coaching roles with the Philadelphia 76ers (2004-2005) and the Indiana Pacers (2007-2011). His first head coaching opportunity came with the Indiana Pacers in 2011, where he led the team to consecutive Eastern Conference Finals in 2013 and 2014. After his tenure with the Pacers, he coached the Orlando Magic from 2016 to 2018.
