Galen Gering was born on February 13, 1971, in Los Angeles, California. His upbringing was influenced by his artist parents, Michele de Oñate and Alan Gering. At the age of 18, Gering moved to New York City to pursue a modeling career, completing his high school education remotely. He traveled across Europe as a model and later attended New York University for one year. He subsequently transferred to the University of Miami, where he focused his studies on creative writing and film. He graduated with honors in May 1999.
While still a student, Gering secured a role on the NBC daytime soap opera “Passions” in 1999, playing the character of Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald. His work on the show gained him recognition, including being named one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 2000. He remained with “Passions” for its entire run, until its cancellation in 2008. Following this, Gering joined another NBC soap, “Days of Our Lives,” on October 31, 2008, taking on the role of Rafe Hernandez, an FBI agent.
Beyond his acting roles, Gering has expanded his career to include filmmaking and writing. He has also participated in pro-am beach volleyball. In 2011, he appeared alongside his wife, Jenna, and their children in the E! reality series “Dirty Soap,” which explored the lives of soap opera actors.
