Gillberg

Duane Gill, widely known as Gillberg, became the longest-reigning Light Heavyweight Champion in World Wrestling Federation (WWF) history, holding the title for an unprecedented 15 months following his victory over Christian on November 23, 1998. Gill began his professional wrestling career in 1990, initially gaining recognition on the independent circuit as part of the masked tag team The Lords of Darkness, under the name Pain. Alongside Barry Hardy, Gill secured the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation’s first-ever Tag Team Championship in 1991. His early career also included stints in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) in late 1993 and early 1994.

Demonstrating his commitment to fostering new talent, Gill established Gillberg’s Pro Wrestling Academy in Severn, Maryland, in 2010, imparting his extensive wrestling knowledge and experience. Although Gill announced his retirement from active in-ring competition in February 2020 after a final match against James Ellsworth, his influence and character endured through occasional WWE appearances. In November 2020, Gill suffered a heart attack, from which he recovered with widespread support from the wrestling community. Expanding his commitment to public service beyond wrestling, Gill was appointed Executive Director of the Montana VA Health Care System in June 2024, exemplifying a career marked by both enduring entertainment and significant varied achievements.
