Italian baker and engineer Giuseppe Dell’Anno took first place in the twelfth season of The Great British Bake Off in 2021. He is an engineer, a writer, and a cook.
Dell’Anno was born in Rome, Italy. His father was a professional chef. He relocated to England in 2002 and began working there as a research assistant. He received his Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Pisa in 2004. In 2007, Dell’Anno finished his PhD. At the time of The Great British Bake Off, he was principal engineer at the National Composites Centre and an industrial fellow at the University of Bristol, among other academic and commercial employers. Dell’Anno participated in The Great British Bake Off’s 12th season in 2021. He became the first Italian to triumph in the competition after earning Star Baker twice and collecting two Hollywood handshakes throughout the show.
The Great British Bake Off’s subsequent season was covered in depth in each episode of Dell’Anno’s “Britalian Bake-Off Review” column, which he published for the Radio Times the following year. The fifth episode of Bake Off Italia – Dolci in Forno, the Italian version of the programme, included a special appearance by Dell’Anno as a judge. Dell’Anno’s first cookbook, which includes recipes based on his father’s lifelong notes, was released in 2022.
