Renowned American makeup artist and cosmetologist Gucci Westman sits at the very top of her industry. Known for her chic but natural “second skin” approach to makeup, she has styled the looks of A-listers such as Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Natalie Portman, and Gwyneth Paltrow and has also worked with the likes of Halle Berry, Elle Macpherson, and many others. For four years, she was the International Artistic Director of L’Oreal’s luxury cosmetics brand Lancôme and subsequently worked as the Global Artistic Director for Revlon for seven years. In 2018, she broke out on her own, launching “clean beauty” cosmetic line Westman Atelier. She is also on the Business of Fashion 500 — a hand-picked, professional index of the most important people in the current fashion industry.
Westman was born in California to hippie parents and spent two years living in a Kundalini ashram as a small child. She later grew up in Sweden but returned to America in her twenties, becoming a makeup artist and supervisor for Hollywood films including the likes of French Exit, Buffalo ’66, and Being John Malkovich. She became a major name in the cosmetics industry in 2003 when she became Lancôme’s International Artistic Director. In 2007, she was poached by Revlon and became their Global Artistic Director, working with some of the biggest showbiz names on the planet and even getting a cameo in the 2008 Sex and the City movie.
Westman’s work with major celebrities — Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston, and Taylor Swift to name just three — has also been featured on the covers of major magazines such as Vogue (whom she modelled for herself in 2011). Her Westman Atelier brand is popular all over the world, and the brand’s YouTube channel, filled with tutorials from Westman herself, has tens of thousands of subscribers.
