Harrie Lavreysen is a Dutch track cyclist, born on 14th March 1997, known for his speed and agility on the bike. Harrie first started cycling at the age of two, and by the age of sixteen, he was already competing at a national level.
In 2014, Harrie made his world championship debut at the junior level, where he won two gold medals in the team sprint and the keirin. In 2016, he moved up to the elite level, and in 2018, he won a bronze medal in the team sprint at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships.
Harrie’s breakthrough year came in 2019, where he dominated the world championships in Poland. He won three gold medals, in the sprint, the keirin, and the team sprint events. He also broke the world record in the sprint event, which he had set himself in qualifying.
Harrie’s success continued into the 2020 season, where he won two gold medals at the 2020 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Berlin. He won the sprint and keirin events, bringing his career world championship medal tally to six gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.
Off the bike, Harrie is known for his humility and work ethic. He is often described as a quiet and unassuming rider, who lets his performances on the bike do the talking for him.
