Hrithik Roshan, born on January 10, 1974, in Bombay, Maharashtra, India, into the prominent Roshan family of Hindi cinema, embarked on his acting journey with early uncredited appearances in his maternal grandfather J. Om Prakash’s films, starting with “Aasha” (1980). His official debut in a leading role came in 2000 with his father Rakesh Roshan’s romantic drama “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.” For this twin role, he received both the Filmfare Award for Best Actor and Best Male Debut, marking an unprecedented overnight sensation in Indian cinema. This initial success was further cemented by roles in Karan Johar’s family drama “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham” (2001), which achieved significant commercial success both in India and overseas. Prior to his acting debut, Roshan worked behind the scenes as an assistant director on four of his father’s films, including “King Uncle” (1993) and “Koyla” (1997), gaining a comprehensive understanding of filmmaking from the ground up.
Roshan’s career saw a turning point in 2003 with “Koi… Mil Gaya,” where he portrayed an intellectually disabled boy, earning him critical acclaim and another Filmfare Best Actor award. The film’s success led to the creation of the “Krrish” franchise, with Roshan embodying India’s first successful superhero in “Krrish” (2006) and “Krrish 3” (2013). He demonstrated his versatility by playing an enigmatic master thief in “Dhoom 2” (2006), earning his third Filmfare Best Actor award, and portraying the Mughal emperor Akbar in “Jodhaa Akbar” (2008), which brought him an International award and his fourth Filmfare Best Actor accolade. His filmography further includes diverse characters, such as a quadriplegic in “Guzaarish” (2010), a workaholic in the cult classic “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” (2011), and a driven protagonist in the high-grossing revenge drama “Agneepath” (2012). Roshan continued to challenge himself with roles like mathematician Anand Kumar in “Super 30” (2019) and the charismatic intelligence agent Kabir in “War” (2019), demonstrating his commitment to varied and complex characters throughout his career.
