Ian Goodison epitomised what it meant to play for Tranmere Rovers. The central defender went down as a club legend at Prenton Park and made over 400 appearances in the ten years he spent with the club. He was named the club’s Player of the Season on three separate occasions and earned the title of North West League One Footballer of the Year three times.
Goodison joined the club in 2004, quickly becoming an integral member of the defence under Brian Little. During his first season, he helped Tranmere reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. In his second season, the club finished second in League One, before being narrowly defeated in the playoffs. At the end of the 2011-12 season, Goodison was offered a one-year renewal, making him the first player to continue as part of the team into their 40s. He made his 400th appearance for the club in October 2013 as he captained Tranmere to a 1-0 win against Bradford City.
Goodison excelled at an international level, memorably featuring in the 1998 World Cup. He retired from the game in 2016, having played for Jamaica a record amount of 128 times and scoring ten goals throughout his 13-year international career. Following his departure from Tranmere, Goodison joined Harbour View, where he would play one final season before hanging up his boots. He remains an integral part of the British football community and a revered player with an enduring legacy.
