Irene Dubois, born Ian Hill in Houston, Texas, on July 6, 1993, developed an early interest in performance, leading her to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theater studies from Southern Methodist University. During her college years in Dallas, Hill began experimenting with drag, frequenting local amateur nights. These early experiences nurtured her passion for the art form, prompting her to embrace drag as a career path from the age of 25. Her professional journey included work with the Houston Grand Opera and Texas Repertory Theatre, honing her stage presence and performance skills.
After relocating to Seattle in 2016, Irene Dubois established herself within the city’s vibrant drag scene. She quickly gained recognition for her distinctive “bizarre and otherworldly” drag style, often incorporating alien-inspired elements. She became a resident performer at prominent Seattle venues such as Julia’s on Broadway and Queer Bar, where she co-hosted “The Mothership” weekly show with fellow drag artist Bosco. Her talent was further acknowledged in 2018 when she won the So You Think You Can Drag competition, which secured her a recurring role in R Place’s “Lashes” drag show. She also appeared in Tacocat’s music video for “Grains of Salt.”
Irene Dubois achieved broader recognition through her participation in the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise. She competed on the fifteenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, winning the first mini-challenge before her elimination in the initial episode.
