Isaac Hempstead Wright

Isaac Hempstead Wright, born Isaac William Wright on April 6, 1999, in Surrey, England, began his acting career at age 11. Initially joining a drama club to avoid playing football, he later studied acting at the Kent Youth Theatre in Canterbury. His professional debut was in commercials, leading to his first screen role as Tom Hill in the 2011 horror film “The Awakening.” The same year, he secured his breakout role as Bran Stark in the HBO series “Game of Thrones.” This role, which he held from 2011 to 2019 across eight seasons (with a break in season 5), brought him significant recognition and earned him a Young Artist Award nomination for Best Young Supporting Actor in a TV Series.

Throughout his tenure on “Game of Thrones,” Hempstead Wright’s performance garnered two Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Beyond Westeros, he expanded his acting portfolio to include voice work, notably as Eggs in the 2014 animated film “The Boxtrolls” and as Jack in the 2016 TV mini-series “Revolting Rhymes.” He also made a guest voice appearance in an episode of “Family Guy” in 2014. His filmography also includes a supporting role in the 2013 crime thriller “Closed Circuit.” In 2019, he starred in the music video for Foals’ song “Exits.” More recently, he appeared in the 2021 sci-fi film “Voyagers” alongside Colin Farrell and Tye Sheridan.

Demonstrating interests beyond acting, Hempstead Wright attended the University of Birmingham before enrolling in University College London to study neuroscience, earning a BSc. He has also contributed to academic research, authoring a paper on oculomotor changes. In December 2019, he became a patron of Humanists UK, aligning himself with secular humanist values.
