Jayson Christopher Tatum Sr., born on March 3, 1998, in St. Louis, Missouri, embarked on his path to professional basketball at a young age. He attended Chaminade College Preparatory School in Creve Coeur, Missouri, where he rapidly distinguished himself as a gifted athlete. Tatum was named 2013 Metro Catholic Conference (MCC) Co-Player of the Year as a freshman, contributing to the Red Devils’ MCC and Missouri District 2 championships. As a junior, he averaged 25.9 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, earning Second-team Naismith Trophy All-American honors. His high school career culminated in being named the 2016 Gatorade National Player of the Year, alongside selections to the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic, where he demonstrated consistent high-level performance.
Following his decorated high school career, Tatum played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils during the 2016–2017 season. Despite missing the first eight games due to injury, he quickly became a key player, averaging 16.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 29 games. His collegiate achievements included being named to the ACC All-Freshman team and a third-team All-ACC selection. After one season, Tatum declared for the 2017 NBA draft, where he was selected third overall by the Boston Celtics. His rookie NBA season saw him earn a spot on the NBA All-Rookie First Team, demonstrating immediate impact and potential. He has since been named a six-time NBA All-Star, five-time All-NBA selection (including four first-team selections), and an NBA champion in 2024 with the Boston Celtics.
