Jesse Adam Eisenberg, born on October 5, 1983, in Queens, New York, and raised in East Brunswick Township, New Jersey, began his acting career in children’s theater at age 10. His professional debut was in an off-Broadway play, “The Gathering,” at 16, followed by his first television appearance in the Fox series “Get Real” from 1999 to 2000. Eisenberg’s early film career included his first leading role in 2002’s “Roger Dodger,” for which he received the “Most Promising New Actor” award at the San Diego Film Festival. This early success set the stage for a diverse career, characterized by roles in independent dramas and mainstream productions.
Eisenberg’s career gained significant momentum with his breakthrough role as Columbus in the 2009 horror-comedy “Zombieland.” The following year, he achieved critical acclaim and widespread recognition for his portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in David Fincher’s 2010 film “The Social Network.” This performance earned him nominations for Best Actor at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. He further expanded his range by voicing the character Blu in the animated film “Rio” (2011) and its 2014 sequel, “Rio 2.” Eisenberg has also taken on prominent roles in major film franchises, including a starring role as J. Daniel Atlas in “Now You See Me” (2013) and its 2016 sequel, and his portrayal of Lex Luthor in the DC Extended Universe films “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016) and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” (2021).
Beyond acting, Eisenberg has established himself as a writer and director. He penned and starred in several off-Broadway plays, including “Asuncion,” “The Revisionist,” and “The Spoils,” and published his first book, a collection of short humor pieces titled “Bream Gives Me Hiccups,” in 2015. His directorial debut came with the 2022 film “When You Finish Saving the World,” which he also wrote. In 2024, he directed, wrote, and starred in “A Real Pain,” earning him a BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay and an Academy Award nomination in the same category. Eisenberg’s work consistently spans various mediums, highlighting his versatility and dedication to artistic expression.
