Jesse Ventura

Jesse Ventura, an acclaimed professional wrestler and actor, made national headlines upon his election as the 38th Governor of Minnesota in 1998. After a dynamic career in the ring as ‘Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura,’ he secured two Pacific Northwest Wrestling titles and five tag team titles. He further captivated audiences in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) as both a formidable performer and a distinctive color commentator. Ventura also held the AWA World Tag Team Championship in 1980 with Adrian Adonis and was later honored with induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004.

Concurrent with his wrestling career, Ventura transitioned to acting, appearing in notable films such as ‘Predator’ (1987) alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, ‘The Running Man’ (1987), and ‘Demolition Man’ (1993). His political ascent began in 1991 with his election as Mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, a position he held until 1995. Ventura’s independent spirit resonated with voters, leading to his groundbreaking victory as the Reform Party candidate for governor in 1998. During his term from 1999 to 2003, he implemented significant property tax reforms, oversaw substantial sales tax rebates for citizens, and championed infrastructure development, including the construction of the METRO Blue Line light rail.

Demonstrating his enduring presence in entertainment, he also served as a special guest referee for the SummerSlam main event in 1999. Following his gubernatorial term, Ventura remained a prominent public intellectual and author. He was named a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2003, further solidifying his unique public persona.

In 2017, he hosted ‘The World According to Jesse’ on RT America. Most recently, in 2024, Ventura endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for the presidential election, maintaining his active engagement in the political landscape.
