About

Jesse Ventura, born James George Janos on July 15, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, embarked on a diverse career path that spanned professional wrestling, acting, and politics. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1969, Ventura served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1975, including a period as part of Underwater Demolition Team 12 during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he attended North Hennepin Community College on the G.I. Bill before becoming a bodyguard for bands like The Rolling Stones and Grateful Dead leading him to professional wrestling.

Ventura adopted the ring name “Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura” and quickly became a prominent heel in the wrestling world, known for his flamboyant persona. He wrestled in various territories, winning the Pacific Northwest Wrestling title twice and the tag team title five times. His career in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) saw him as both a performer and a color commentator, and he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004. Ventura also pursued an acting career, appearing in films such as “Predator” (1987) alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, “The Running Man” (1987), and “Demolition Man” (1993).

His transition into politics began in 1991 when he was elected mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, serving until 1995. In 1998, Ventura made national headlines by winning the Minnesota gubernatorial election as a Reform Party candidate, running a low-budget, grassroots campaign that challenged traditional politics. He served one term as governor from 1999 to 2003, overseeing property tax reforms, sales tax rebates, and the construction of the METRO Blue Line light rail. After leaving office, Ventura continued to be a public figure, hosting political television shows, writing several books, and actively engaging in discussions on third-party politics and various social issues.
