Jim Lampley transitioned from a collegiate English and RTVMP student to a distinguished sportscaster, news anchor, and film producer. After being selected by ABC Sports in 1974 as the first-ever sideline reporter for national college football telecasts, Jim Lampley embarked on a distinguished forty-six-year career as a sportscaster, news anchor, and film producer. His early ABC Sports tenure included extensive Olympic coverage, serving as host for the 1976 Winter and Summer Olympics, and both the 1984 Winter and Summer Games. During this period, Lampley was also studio host for United States Football League (USFL) broadcasts from 1983 to 1985, called the NASCAR Firecracker 400 in 1984, and anchored Super Bowl XIX in 1985.
He executive produced projects such as ‘The Last Game’ (2002), ‘Race Across America’ (2005), and ‘The Abattoir’ (2008). From 2012 to 2014, he wrote, hosted, and executive produced ‘The Fight Game with Jim Lampley’ on HBO, and executive produced the HBO documentary series ‘On Freddie Roach’ in 2012. Lampley has also appeared as himself in notable films including ‘Rocky Balboa’ and ‘Ocean’s Eleven,’ leveraging his recognizable persona through his production company, Crystal Spring Productions (now Atticus Entertainment).
